Lawyer Joke

In a murder trial, the defense attorney was cross-examining the coroner:

Attorney: Before you signed the death certificate, had you taken the pulse?

Coroner: No.

Attorney: Did you listen to the heart?

Coroner: No.

Attorney: Did you check for breathing?

Coroner: No.

Attorney: So, when you signed the death certificate, you weren't sure the man was dead, were you?

Coroner: Well, let me put it this way. The man's brain was sitting in a jar on my desk. But I guess it's possible he could be out there practicing law somewhere.

Meditation Thoughts

Every culture in the world has its own perspective of G-d, of the Truth.
When we empty ourselves of all our biases, prejudices, and preconceived notions of the world, we feel no pain.
We are one with the truth.

Having royally messed up my foot my office has become my new home away from home. The kids at the meditation group began wondering where I was and one of our members sent out the above. Everything else is going well and if all goes well I should be able to return to that wonderful group.

Cheesy Joke

  • Post a comment
Three handsome male dogs are walking down the street
when they see a beautiful, enticing, female Poodle.

The three male dogs fall all over themselves in an effort
to be the one to reach her first, but end up arriving in front
of her at the same time.

The males are speechless before her beauty, slobbering
on themselves and hoping for just a glance from her in
return.

Aware of her charms and her obvious effect on the three
suitors, she decides to be kind and tells them, "The first
one who can use the words 'liver' and 'cheese' together
in an imaginative, intelligent sentence can go out with me."

The sturdy, muscular black Lab speaks up quickly and
says, "I love liver and cheese."

"Oh, how childish," said the Poodle. "That shows no
imagination or intelligence whatsoever."

She turns to the tall, shiny Golden Retriever and says,
"How well can you do?"

"Um. I HATE liver and cheese," blurts the Golden Retriever.

"My, my," said the Poodle. "I guess it's hopeless. That's just
as dumb as the Lab's sentence."

She then turns to the last of the three dogs and says, "How
about you, little guy?"

The last of the three, tiny in stature but big in fame and finesse,
is the Chihuahua .

He gives her a smile, a sly wink, turns to the Golden Retriever
and the Lab and says.

(OK this is really good)

"Liver alone. Cheese mine."

Survived Halloween with a twisted ankle and now a lovely elastic brace. Made some pots and moving on with life. When my head gets straightened out I'll write something coherent for now I just needed to jot down something.

More to Mediate On

Time to time I get emails from folks on a variety of things. Those things that I wish to share and/or ponder later I throw here. Here is simply another one of those snippets. Something to think about and ponder.

Excerpt Number One:
THE WAY OF MAHA ATI
BY CHOGYAM TRUNGPA RINPOCHE

The everyday practice is simply to develop a complete acceptance and openness to all situations and emotions and to all people, experiencing everything totally without mental reservations and blockages, so that one never withdraws or centralizes onto oneself.

This produces a tremendous energy which is usually locked up in the processes of mental evasion and generally running away from life experiences.

Clarity of awareness may in its initial stages be unpleasant or fear inspiring. If so, then one should open oneself completely to the pain or the fear and welcome it. In this way the barriers created by one's own habitual emotional reactions and prejudices are broken down.

When performing the meditation practice one should get the feeling of opening oneself out completely to the whole universe with absolute simplicity and nakedness of mind, ridding oneself of all “protecting” barriers.

Don't mentally split in two when meditating, one part of the mind watching the other like a cat watching a mouse.

One should realize that one does not meditate in order to go deeply into oneself and withdraw from the world.

... complete openness of mind is still the keynote.

Listening by Rumi

Listening by Rumi

What is the deep listening?  Sama is
a greeting from the secret ones inside

the heart, a letter.  The branches of
your intelligence grows new leaves in

the wind of this listening.  The body
reaches a peace.  Rooster sound comes,

reminding you of your love for dawn,
The reed flute and the singer’s lips:

The knack of how spirit breathes into
us becomes as simple and ordinary as

Eating and drinking.  The dead rise with
the pleasure of listening.  If someone

Can’t hear a trumpet melody, sprinkle
dirt on his head and declare him dead.

Listen, and feel the beauty of your
separation, the unsayable absence.

There’s a moon inside every human being.
Learn to be companions with it.  Give

more of your life to this listening.  As
brightness is to time, so you are to

the one who talks to the deep ear in
your chest.  I should sell my tongue

and buy a thousand ears when that
one steps near and begins to speak.

Why Parents Drink

A boss wondered why his most valued employee had not phoned in sick one day. Having an urgent problem with one of the main computers, he dialed the employee's home phone number and was greeted with a child's whisper.

" Hello?" came a young whisper.

"Is your daddy home?" he asked.

"Yes," whispered the small voice.

"May I talk with him?"

The child whispered, "No."

Surprised and wanting to talk with an adult, the boss asked, "Is your Mommy there?"

"Yes."

"May I talk with her?"

Again the small voice whispered, "No."

Hoping there was somebody with whom he could leave a message, the boss asked, "Is anybody else there?"

"Yes," whispered the child, "a policeman."

Wondering what a cop would be doing at his employee's home, the boss asked, "May I speak with the policeman?"

"No, he's busy," whispered the child.

"Busy doing what?"

"Talking to Daddy and Mommy and the Fireman," came the whispered answer.

Growing more worried as he heard a loud noise in the background through the ear piece on the phone, the boss asked, "What is that noise?"

"A helicopter," answered the whispering voice.

"What is going on there?" demanded the boss, now truly apprehensive.

Again, whispering, the child answered, "The search team just landed a helicopter."

Alarmed, concerned and a little frustrated the boss asked, "What are they searching for?"

Still whispering, the young voice replied with a muffled giggle ... "ME."
